About Dr. Beard

Education:

Dr. Beard holds a M.Ed. and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, with a specialization in Counseling Psychology.  During graduate school, Dr. Beard completed rotations in college counseling centers, a family counseling clinic, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, and the juvenile justice system.  She also worked as a professional tutor for six years during graduate school and gained invaluable experience working with children and adolescents who have learning difficulties and ADHD.  

Dr. Beard completed her doctoral internship in the Houston Independent School District, where she provided counseling to students ages 5 to 18 with a variety of family, behavioral, and emotional concerns.  She also conducted assessments of children and adolescents with Autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD, and other psychological and behavior disorders.  Following her internship with HISD, Dr. Beard became a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology and worked in the Humble Independent School District.  In Humble, Dr. Beard continued to provide assessment, counseling, and school consultation services to children and their families.  Before starting her own private practice, Dr. Beard  also worked under two local psychologists and gained valuable knowledge about providing psychological services in the private sector and conducting assessments for children in private schools. 

 

Private Practice and Community Involvement:

 Dr. Beard has been in private practice since 2006 and has specialized in treating children, adolescents, and adults with anxiety disorders since that time.  In addition, she divides her practice between treating people who suffer from anxiety-related issues and assessing children, adolescents, and adults for ADHD, learning disabilities, and other psychological concerns.   In addition to her private practice, Dr. Beard has been a Lecturer at the University of Houston where she instructed doctoral students in personality assessment. She also volunteered at the Julianna Poor Memorial Counseling Center at Houston's First Baptist Church for several years.  Currently, Dr. Beard serves on the Board of Directors of the Houston Branch of the International Dyslexia Association, is a Past President of the Houston Psychological Association, and sits on the Board of the Houston Psychological Association.  She is a member of the Houston Psychological Association, International Dyslexia Association, Obsessive Compulsive Foundation, and Anxiety Disorders Association of America.
